Size of pictures to be posted

Hi All,
Worked out how to post pictures via mobile now, but when I try, it says files are too large. I've found and downloaded an "image resizing app", it's very easy to use, now I just need to know what sizes / dimensions photos need to be in order for this site to allow them to be posted. Any advice? Not sure why admin can't up the size boundaries really, allowing more people to post more photos...
Anywho, if someone could advise me as to the correct size requirements for photos to be posted, that'd be great!
