What do you think about satin-backed waistcoats? In case you don’t get the idea, here’s a link to a page showing a picture of a woman in such a waistcoat: http://www.inmagine.com/cd909/324058rkn-photo
Do you think satin-backed waistcoats look better on women or on men? I personally think that they look better on women, even though waistcoats were originally men’s clothes and because of the satin.
Satin-backed waistcoats are not the best kinds of clothes with satin. The satin that is used for waistcoat backs is, in my opinion, too thin. It’s much thinner than the satin that is used for blouses and even thinner than the satin that is used for evening and ball gowns. I like the sheen of satin backs of waistcoats, though. Another problem with such waistcoats is that you can’t see the person’s face if you’re looking at his/her back. If you’re looking at his/her side, you only see his/her profile and part of the satin back of his/her waistcoat.

The good thing about satin back waistcoats is you can wear them with a satin dress shirt to act as an accessory . I often wear my black satin back waistcoat with one of my satin dress shirts if going out somewhere dressy and its too hot for a blazer or jacket. I reckon waistcoats add something to the look and they are also good if you are a guy and a bit self consious about wearing a satin shirt in a bright colour for the first time in public. Also if you where going to a formal function like a wedding and wearing a tie, the tie can be tucked neatly into the waistcoat instead of flapping around in the wind.I have also seen a mens striped red satin waistcoat in a shop window dressed with a red tie and black shirt , and it looks pretty cool. The red waistcoat is satin on the front as well as the back.
