Pretty Little Thing

Post by nightie071090 »

Hey all, what are your thoughts on PLT satin? I’ve been on a few nights out with my misses and have seen at least 15 women on several night outs wearing the teal satin shirt PLT sell, and got to say it looks good! But from what Ive read on here in the past the quality isnt very good, but then again some may even like the quality? Whats your verdict guys?

Eh, everything these days from all those online websites like pretty little thing, boohoo, fashionova etc… is cheaply made light fabric. Influencers hype all these brands up but all that crap comes from China. A lot of them are also usually poly spandex fabric that stretches, which aren’t as great. Or they do that weird satin that has the texture on it so it looks like Satin until you get close to it…can’t stand that.

In my opinion, no one makes good quality stuff anymore. You gotta go to thrift stores (or pay more online) to find the good quality stuff.

Yeah i know what you mean, since the rise of fast fashion the quality in most materials has dropped, including satin. But then again I bought a satin pj set off amazon for myself and although they were thin they felt amazing to wear so I ordered another pair for my partner but the quality of that set was shit compared to what I first bought!

Since the loss of BHS and Debenhams over in the uk, theres a limited amount of places that are “mainstream” or appealing to women around my age bracket that sell good quality satin. Boux avenue (english version of victoria secret) use to do an amazing line up of satin nighties and pjs but thats dropped in quality also! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Mind you online second hand shops like depop are growing popular and they also have a great range of quality satin but when you mention the word “vintage” they try and charge you £40 for a blouse you can get in a charity shop for £5 🤣 but then again the pros of depop is most women will model in what they’re selling and don’t really judge you buying their items like the grannies in charity shops

I like PLT.

While I like both the heavier vintage satin many here love, I also love the light silky satin of today. Maybe it's because I'm younger but I'm used to the lighter satin and it is cooler in the summer. Of course if you're not wearing it out that probably doesn't matter but um, yes, some feather light, silky satin is yummy. <3

I have to agree with Jasmine
I mean basically satin is a silk substitute (have I started a war) ... I remeber wearing my older sister pure silk night gown. Don't think I even had to touch myself ... mind you I was 14 or 15 and a bit hair trigger

Inconsistent Satin is the worst!!! Ugh. I feel you.

I have always wanted to try those satin brands after seeing them modeled by girls on this website (maybe Marks & Spencer’s too?), but I live in the US.

This! I have just recently been talking about how girls on Depop are listing things as Vintage when they’re not really vintage, and ridiculously increasing the prices on them. I’ve told off a bunch of them on Depop (who are selling “vintage” prom dresses for like $300-400+ AND have the audacity to charge shipping too) recently. Drives me insane. Exactly, avoid Depop like the plague unless it’s actually a good deal. Just go to thrift stores or whatever to get your stuff….I have gotten tons of stuff from them lately, I would’ve spent way more online! Sure the trade off is you don’t get sexy pics of the girl modeling the item, but for the prices and amounts you’d save, it’s worth it. The only problem is, all these Depop girls are snatching up these items just so they can resell as “vintage”. Just can’t win sometimes!

Them’s fightin’ words!

I do believe this is a SATIN Forum and not the other way around 😉

I’d say Satin is superior, but that’s just me.

Honestly Silk is just too thin and delicate for me. That’s why I prefer Satin. Silk should stay thin and Satin should stay thick…this would make things a lot easier!

Definitely agree with you that thinner satin has its place, I sometimes wear pretty thin pj bottoms bought off amazon a few years back and they’re super comfy in the summer, my partner in the other hand always finds that she sweats in satin - but the nightwear she has is quite thick so I can see why most women are more interested in the thinner satin

I know what you mean! Sometimes you can come across a really good deal like a st michaels or a bhs blouse on there for £10-20 plus modelling which isnt bad but you could either get it cheaper from a thrift store or on ebay - another pet hate about ebay is that most women dont model in their items either! 🤣 or if its really good quality satin then its on a bid system which I aint got time for!

History lesson…

Satin was made with real silk and was around way before they started started synthetic satin fabrics (polyester, nylon, acetate, etc.). This…was around over 2000 years ago. Over time, for satin at least, especially last 200 years, it became blends of other fabrics, including the introduction to the synthetic fibers.

Some people feel that shinier is the best and if it’s not shiny as they see it, it’s not satin. If it shines, it should be talked about in here. I wouldn’t be surprised if people talked about PVC or latex in here though those aren’t necessarily fabrics.

People are entitled to their own opinions on how they feel about satin. I lean on pure silk satin/charmeuse, mostly between light-medium weight and maybe some that are heavy weight. I’ve stated before the reasoning why is because of its bounciness and how it flows and drapes. My take on it is, the silkier the better. I’ll even take silky over shiny.

People also like the nylon materials like they use for jackets and sportswear. They may not be entirely satin but they do shine almost like it. We even had a post here earlier about parachutes. They were originally was made of silk but later it became nylon. I was attracted to parachutes at a much younger age so I can relate! I own a couple real silk parachutes myself. They were made in the mid 40s.

And FYI, they do make thicker silk satin, you just have to know more about it. It’s more expensive, yes, but it’s not always as thin as you know about. Silk falls into the satin category…just as much as any other fabric made into it. Even cotton can be made into satin…see for yourself!

Experiment sometimes and see what you really like. Don’t necessarily knock it just because of your preferences. All fabrics have every right to be made into satin if made correctly.
How a woman should be touched...
When you drop silk on her skin, the same way that touches her and falls down at the same time... that is the perfect way to touch a woman...
