Yes, but I'd bet my house that that dress is 100% silk satin and, according to a poll on this forum, most members, (not including myself,) prefer polyester satin.

As I said on that thread, I find that somewhat amazing. I wonder if it is because some members haven't actually experienced the feel of real silk satin. It used to be hard to find but is slightly more popular these days. I doubt very much that any major celeb would shun a real silk satin dress for a polyester one. Tatra.

Exactly Coatfun. Real silk satin is in a class of it's own. Here are 2 pics of a recent acquisition of mine, although my crappy camera can't quite capture it's splendor. Tatra.

Nice gown Tatra. There is only one other version of satin that comes close to silk satin and that in the Rayon Slipper Satin from the 40's that bridal gowns were made of. Now you have to understand silk satin. Silk Satin can be woven in many different ways. I have seen bridal gowns that were made of silk satin but woven in a non glossy way and they don't have the shimmer and smoothness that makes me go crazy.

Don't let me forget Acetate satin. If it is woven with a high thread count into a nice bridal satin it can make you do things pretty crazy.

I know exactly what you mean Coatfun. I've got a Monsoon bridal skirt in silk satin and the actual smooth, satin side is on the inside, the outer having a more "slubbed" appearance.

On the other hand, the reverse of the dress I've shown is simply a smooth, non shiny silk.

Silk and rayon make a good mix. I've got a couple of silk/rayon dressing gowns and they have a really nice feel to them.

I pride myself on usually being able to tell whether a dress is made of real silk or not and I am very surprised on the rare occasions when I might find something in, say, a charity shop, tell myself that it is silk only to discover that it isn't. Doesn't happen very often though.

I only have a few silk satin items that I can wear. Mostly I just hang them up and keep them pristine. I'll never wear the one above but for a different reason. It arrived never having been cleaned after it's last outing, whenever/where ever that was, and the last wearer appears to have been the sort of person more at home in a pair of jeans rather than a beautiful silk dress, if the amount of marks and obvious hand wipes are anything to go by. Only cost me a couple of quid too. Tatra.
